They are funded almost entirely based on how much children buy their action figures, toy lines and merchandise. Elite Special Forces units are no longer funded based upon the merits of their abilities, the rarity of their skill sets, or the needs and requirements of combat doctrine as we would understand it. It isn’t just about getting the mission done, it’s doing it in ways that can be turned into toys, comics, and novelty plush toys.
