The game involves competitive interactions among a group of courtiers seeking favor and influence with an ailining monarch who has lost his ability to rule due to illness. Players take on different roles competing for power, alliance formation in hopes that they will become favored by the Monarch's shifting political opinions caused by their ill health, ultimately aiming at ascending to throne when the Monarchs eventual death arrives.
