Rattenjåger is a tabletop wargame in which players take on roles as mouse hunters called Rattelnjaegers who venture deep into dark forests to find and kill dangerous rats mutated by an ancient parasitic tree, the Adeletree's potent sap. Players can use this juice themselves for strength or madness enhancement before going mad during battles descending deeper than their hunting grounds are tall in a large void of flesh known as Blüdmump below where newly fallen hunters rise again to hunt and become consumed back into it all through oblivion by the Adeletree's sap. The Hunt never ends, but players must be careful or risk falling victim themselves like prey before ascending out once more from this bloody cycle for honor in an endless blood war against rats with no end
