METTLE Core is a set of rules and tools designed for creating role playing games, with an emphasis on heroic stories featuring mystery, intrigue, crime drama, B-movie mayhem, daring rescue attempts, tense exploration in post-apocalyptic settings. The focus includes gritty survival tales from the wild west or Nazi war camps alongside low fantasy elements like magic systems where you must decide your own character's backstory and power advancement methods that can add dramatic surprises to stories with a hybrid dice pool system based on player input (rolls). Players get started off by creating characters, their motivations built in at every turn. The game is intended for experienced players who enjoy collaborative storytelling techniques or want the flexibility of building campaigns around existing story ideas like adventures and quests provided along side freeform character creation choices which help to create a vast number of play-styles without additional rulebooks needed as long as basic guidelines are followed, such as using Twist mechanics from an intentionally hackable system for adding extra drama.
