Though their purses overflow with gold and jewels, their eyes gleam with avarice for the ultimate prize—and one of their number has taken matters into their own hands, slipping a deadly poison into their companions’ tankards. At the end of the evening, after the last tale is told, only one treasure-seeker will draw breath, sliding past the slumped forms of their erstwhile companions with the ultimate reward in hand. Each one eyes the others uneasily as they spin their stories of daring and danger, deftly avoiding the sensitive topic of exactly which of them will claim the relic for themselves.
