REApEAlS (the game) takes place in a world where spirits who have been reincarnated are given new bodies every time they die, but there is no regulation of the cycle and those shells stagnate which makes them foul with souls inside becoming monsters. The story follows two characters named Leo Niederwaldt from Germany and Tom Greenstein (also played by James Franco), an average man who has been sent to retrieve reincarnated spirits that have gone missing, a job they are not qualified for but still must do because the cycle of reincarnation is more important than their jobs. - The game takes place in 2037 where souls get new bodies every time someone dies and shells stagnate from neglect which makes them foul with soul inside becoming monsters (shells).
