In a distant future, spacecraft travel faster than light on interstellar journeys to save time by making use of wormhole technology rather than taking many long years or decades. However, these routes are highly volatile due to the risk that an object could hit it and alter its trajectory in unpredictable ways as soon as they pass through one another; this is what happened a few months ago with two ships traveling at high speeds along their respective paths on opposite sides of Earth's orbit, which were not detected until weeks later when both had already passed. The interstellar community has set up the Catastrophe Commission to investigate and regulate these routes after such accidents occur so as to minimize risks for future travelers while maintaining necessary security measures in case any objects or beings are discovered that could alter travel plans at a critical juncture, causing even more disruptions with time-sensitive missions on other planets. The story follows an independent writer named Cash Chi (who may be the protagonist of another game) who is also involved as editor for Orbital Blues' "The Man We Know" magazine about interstellar exploration and colonization; he discovers a mysterious connection between his former classmate's death, which occurred during one such voyage on that route, and several other fatal accidents involving high- speed ships.
