The game is based on an idea by Avery Aldeir & Benjamin Rosenbaum, using a graphic design framework
from Veer Hendro called "Graphiq". It creates characters who come to terms with their place in
society as outsiders looking for belongingness or insiders seeking autonomy. Players create and
play-test different relationships between the character's pasts, present selves (their homes),
potential future identities at home/abroad, friends of all kinds, family members from both worlds if
they choose them...all while trying to navigate a difficult relationship with their Hegemony that
could be challenging for either group. The game also involves creating and playing out the story arc
as characters struggle between conflicting values within themselves. The main character in Far From
Home is named Leo, who was born on an island off shore of China but grew up mostly outside it due to
his father's work with Chinese immigrants living abroad during World War II-era America. He has a
close relationship and often mentors younger immigrant children through language classes at school
as well as other community events like the annual picnic where he organizes games for kids that
encourage friendship, trust among people of different cultures/ethnicities (he calls it "Kongguk").
