FAQ: What is a contested roll? A contested roll occurs when one rolls separately from player-character actions versus NPC's, meaning that it takes both of those scores to determine whether or not something was successful in an interaction with the NPCs (nonplayer characters). For example, if your character has 10 hit points and you rolled for them successfully on a 20 sided die against some enemy creatures' attacks, but they have only 5 HP left after taking damage from another attack roll. In this scenario, neither of those rolls count as successes or failures individually because the player-character actions (
