Making powerful magic somewhat accessible to characters early in the game. On this last point, the game uses a "tiers" system in place of character levels, and experience points are not tracked. The aim is to emphasize accomplishing goals (even far reaching ones) within the limitations of a given set of abilities, rather than constantly waiting for that next bump in power.
