The Problem with Levels is a recurring issue for players who receive levels through leveling systems such as Experience Points (XP). Players feel that their progress can be arbitrary without tangible progression. Emergent experience addresses this by directly rewarding storytelling factors in the game, mapping to specific actions but detached from actual enrichments of gameplay.
