The Buried tells the story of an underground miner trapped by their own digging and struggling for survival in tunnels carved into unknown depths with no way out except through a half-open stone doorway that leads them further down, deeper into darkness where they must find food from scavenged bones scattered about. The game takes place over multiple days as the player navigates various traps, puzzles to overcome and avoids enemies attempting to harm or kill them at every turn in order for progress towards their ultimate goal of reaching that final room beyond what is visible with just a small flashlight light source illumination by headlamp on an underground mine shaft.
