The story follows a character who has lived most of their life in captivity (known as "the cage") but is now experiencing freedom for the first time after escaping from it due to some unexpected event or circumstance that sets them free by freeing themselves, while they try new things and explore what was previously denied. Trapped characters are often shown struggling with feelings such as helplessness, vulnerability, isolation/isolation in a larger world beyond their previous cage- like surroundings, but may also experience the opposite - freedom to take risks or make decisions without judgment from those who want them confined (elements of shelter and adventure), being able to be themselves even if they don't fit into other's expectations.
