BABS is a conflict resolution method for tabletop roleplaying games that incorporates elements of
problem-solving and narration/improvisation with the aim of creating unpredictable, player autonomy
situations in any situation where there's an uncertain outcome. It does not rely on components or
require specific ruleset knowledge to use effectively.
BABS stands (back) & because so means it
works as a conversation between players who are GMs and themselves; they can get things done by
asking for permission, but if that doesn't work then the game is their own problem! It's not limited
specifically just in combat situations—BAB(y) has been used to resolve conflicts over non-violent
tasks like setting up furniture or dealing with paperwork.
BABS uses a system of verbal
interaction between players and GMs (or player–player), allowing for an exchange that is both open
