Volleyball Initiative (VBI) is an alternate way to assign actions in roleplaying games like D&D, that relies on the concept of "volleys" or passing around small objects during combat rounds. It creates more interesting and unpredictable scenarios by giving players options beyond simply rolling dice for their turns; instead they must strategically choose who takes which action first before taking one themselves later to round out a full turn cycle (or in VBI's case, the entire story arc). This method is most effective when each character has only simple "actions" available and encourages strategic thinking over simplistic randomness.
