A common therapy exercise to soothe anxiety or panic attacks is to do an alphabet list. Like, "list bands from a-z" or "list foods from a-z" "list artists" etc etc.
I had a lot of panic attacks and my best friend and I burned through the lists pretty quickly because really they're hard to repeat and there's no engagement. I don't have to really think about why i said orange for o. I can only list lifehouse as a band for l so many times. It wasn't enough and one night very late, or early morning rather one of us said "...how about who would you punch? Like a-z?"
And that worked perfectly.
