The protagonist has been transformed into a young woman named Emily after being touched by her
grandfather's magical device called "Earlly Access." She is taken to a college run by members of an
order dedicated towards the pursuit of power known as Dominum Militutem Arkana. It appears that
attendance at this school, although mandatory for those who undergo transformation into women during
puberty and young adulthood through touch with Earlly Access or bloodline heritage- can also be
earned in other ways such as wealth which is not always associated to a college education (e.g.,
owning land). The novel explores themes of strength versus dependence on others, adult
responsibilities compared against the allure of self-discovery and independence; it highlights
societal expectations towards women's roles within families/communities rather than their own
individual pursuits.
