Lancer is a role-playing game set in a fictional setting called Union space that explores an alternate future of humanity. The game is full of detailed descriptions about different locations on Union space and has a variety of factions including Horizon Collective, IPS-N Security corporation, the Albatros Society, KOBOLD Liberation Movement, Sunzi's Zhengs with AI enhancements for enhanced combat abilities like Calebarn, LICH from blinkspace haunting existence. There are also mech options available to purchase or earn as new crew members and some of them have unique gear designed specifically for their roles such as the ATLASS ship-enhanced machine gunner armed Sunzi fighter jet and a ZHENG modified with AI enhancements that can be upgraded through various points in time, adding more capabilities like increased health reserves.
