Maze Adventures was originally published as part of Free RPG Day. The game consists of 30 minutes
and requires only four pre-made character dice (d4s), six standard d6es, eight larger die rolls
called "large" or "super large", ten smaller polyhedral plastic rods to represent the magic points
available on each monster card in a deck that are used for attacks against other monsters. Each
player receives an additional set of five cards with different abilities and powers controlled by
one-sixth percentile dice (polyhedrals). The game features random event cards, which can lead to
various effects such as adding or changing the order of turns during gameplay; these events use a
deck featuring over 80 unique card designs created specifically for this project. Maze Adventures is
designed exclusively with children in mind and requires no prior knowledge or experience playing
role-playing games (RPGs), but it does have an age range that may vary depending on players'
maturity levels as they progress through the game's different stages, each of which include its own
set challenges to overcome. The original booklets for Maze Adventures were designed by artists from
around the world in response to a call posted online during Free RPG Day 2011 asking people "to
imagine and create RPGs that don't feel like old men have written them."
