The story begins with a hazy figure who comes to life after being dead for over 70 years in an
abandoned graveyard at nightfall during Halloween when he sees his granddaughter walking out from
behind him and disappearing into thin air, leaving the reader wondering if it was just her
imagination or something else. Later on that same evening as they were saying their goodbyes outside
of a car dealership where she works after getting off work for Christmas break (the first day of
which is celebrated in Russia), he suddenly begins to feel his old age and decides to go back home,
but finds the house empty except for him since no one has been living there. He goes on an adventure
with his grandson before ending up at a bar where they share some drinks together while reminiscing
about their past as teenagers growing up in post-war America during World War II when he was drafted
into service and played football, only to return home just in time for the war's end after being
discharged. The story then flashes back 15 years later to his granddaughter moving out of her
childhood bedroom that she shared with him before they moved away at 16 so long ago where everything
is exactly as it used to be except there are no family photos or decorations left, leaving only
memories and a sense of nostalgia for the past in front
