The story follows a young man named William who joins his father's bandit group in their travels to recover stolen goods. The gang is fighting against an evil sorcerer-king that has taken over the nearby castle using magic swords as weapons (instead of standard firearms). As they fight, players earn levels and use those skills on critical hits when facing off with enemies or bosses while battling through a series of dungeons filled with traps and obstacles to reach their ultimate goal: destroying the king's fortress. The game also includes optional side quests that can lead characters further in developing relationships between members of different classes (elders, apprentices) as well as providing additional weapons for use against tougher foes like giant spiders or dragons emerging from a nearby river tunnel deep beneath ground level 2
