The caravan of Polume the Farer was assailed on the Spice Road somewhere north of the great city of Obn. The assailants were a company of six falchios, together with a whirlwind they had, somehow, mustered and bound in plasmic chains. They set their captive whirlwind upon the caravan, whose carts it battered and rocked violently, breaking their appurtenances, disordering their furniture, and altogether enraging the buffalo harnessed to them. The six falchios bade the whirlwind forbear and shouted their demands. The caravan must give half of its commerce over, in good time and tidy order, or they would release their whirlwind again, and further, give it leave to murder the caravaneers, which, they avowed, it would do with gusto.
Polume the Farer submitted to no further inconvenience. With a word they dissolved the plasmic chains holding the whirlwind captive. With a gesture they turned it back upon its erstwhile commanders. The falchios flew ahead of it away down the rocky scarp, howling in dismay, and no one knows where they went next or which of them were thrown into the sky or smashed among the sliding stones...
