"Inland, raised up above the lowlands and bordering the Xanthic Wastes is a dry swathe of garrigue clinging to the uplifted rock of an antediluvian seabed. Tangles of briar hide the sinkholes and cenotes that puncture the karst riddled limestone ridges, while defunct marble quarries lie hidden beneath scrub. Across this land wind mule-trains along narrow tracks and in the hills between old sorcerer towers stalk cannibal brigands. This is Helve Country."
